Business of the Creative Panel Discussion

We are artists, full of passion for our work, but needing guidance and examples of how to channel that passion into viable professional pathways. At LIU Post Art we are connecting young artists to mentors who have navigated the path to self-supporting creative careers. The Business of the Creative Speaker Panel March 20, 2019 features:

Susan Boxer Kappel, is an artist and clinical art psychotherapist. She has a private practice and is a clinical supervisor at Hofstra University’s Counseling Mental Health Professions Clinic.  She is the 50th Anniversary conference chair for the for the American Art Therapy Association and the former president of the New York Art Therapy Association. She has worked with a variety of populations, created the community after tragedy art therapy resilience initiative and given lectures across the nation on various topics in Art Therapy.

Louise P. Sloane, represented by Spannerman Modern, Amy Simon Fine Art, and and Sideshow Gallery, Brooklyn, NY, Louise P. Sloane has been exhibiting her minimalist abstract color paintings nationally since 1991. Her career encompasses brick and mortar gallery representation to the increasingly important forum of art fairs.

Art Therapy For Social Justice In Nicaragua And South Korea

Recent art therapy international social action trips offered an exceptional opportunity to explore the role of the arts and social action in the delivery of art therapy services in one region of Nicaragua and South Korea. The course participants were able to experience and understand how social justice can be applied to all realms of art therapy practice. The course participants were also able to develop multiculturalism and cultural competence that effectively addresses a complex and multifaceted understanding of social action.

Artist Dan Christoffel Held A Drawing Workshop For Students

World renowned artist Dan Christoffel held a special drawing workshop for students last Saturday March 26 2016, in the Hutchins Gallery  at LIU Post. Christoffel let students of all majors draw from his works currently on display in the gallery, with easy to follow step-by-step instructions and formulas for constructing facial proportions.

Dan Christoffel, well-known on Long Island and  in New York, studied at Pratt and SVA (School of Visual Arts). Christoffel specializes in portraiture and sculpture with his most famous subject being Abraham Lincoln. His work has been bought and shown all over the world with one of his frequent clients being the White House.

 

Visiting Artist Sharon Louden Speaks At LIU Post

Famous sculptor and abstract painter Sharon Louden visits LIU Post giving an exclusive two hour lecture. Louden describes her life story as an artist as well as her hardships, such as paying for college, financially supporting yourself as an artist and how to inspire one another through your art. Her lecture was one of the most attended events, encouraging young art students of any craft to fight for their dreams and do what they love.

 

 

MFA’s Chosen for Chicago Show

LIU Post’s Candice Licalzi was chosen for Chicago’s “Wet Paint MFA Biennial Competition” at the Zhou B. Arts Center.  Licalzi and alum Jordan Walker (MFA 2014) were chosen out of 500+ entries from all over the nation to participate in the “Wet Paint MFA Biennial Competition” in which, only 40-45 artists were chosen. The exhibition will be held at the Zhou B. Arts Center in Chicago curated by Sergio Gomez.
