Business of the Creative Panel Discussion

We are artists, full of passion for our work, but needing guidance and examples of how to channel that passion into viable professional pathways. At LIU Post Art we are connecting young artists to mentors who have navigated the path to self-supporting creative careers. The Business of the Creative Speaker Panel March 20, 2019 features:

Karen Fitzgerald has been a professional visual artist all of her adult life. Her work is easily found. Her single regret is to not have studied the world of business when she was younger. (Resources provided by Karen Fitzgerald are available here: ReadingResourcesArtIndustryMarch2019[2])

Artist-Entrepreneur, Philip Jordan, restores the Finnegan’s mural, Huntington, NY, He painted in 1978, in honor of the business’ centennial.

Philip Jordan, Trompe L’oeil Muralist, Theatrical Scene Painter, and owner of Jordan Mural Design, Inc. is set to speak Wednesday, November 4, 2015, in the Artist-Entrepreneurs speaker series sponsored by the Art Department Studio Foundation Program in the LIU Post College of Arts, Communications and Design.  The event, to be held 12:30-1:30 PM in Sculpture Building, Studio A, is free and open to all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the public.

Jordan started creating murals straight out of art school 35 years ago and hasn’t stopped since.  High-end homes, restaurants and businesses throughout the New York region have been the setting for his custom designs and finishes.  Jordan expanded into large scale theatrical set painting and now has so many miles beneath his brush he paints with the ease and confidence that only comes from years of experience.

In talking with the artist, his business acumen becomes apparent.  From setting up his first gig–the well-known Finnegan’s mural, in Huntington, NY, –to visiting with clients who, in turn, make referrals, Jordan has cultivated a thriving business as a muralist.

Two more Artist-Entrepreneurs will speak this semester:
